Our Guide to Peckham

Getting cooler by the second

Blasé Londoners have a new topic of dinner party conversation – how the heck did Peckham get so trendy, so fast? It’s always been a thriving, busy and changeable place, but in the last few years in-the-know buyers and renters have picked up on the undiscovered – and under-priced – delights of the area and moved in fast.
The area’s name comes from the Saxon ‘village of the river Peck’ and it was the last stopping point for cattle drovers taking their livestock for sale in London. The newly restored Peckham Rye Park and Common is the central green space of the area and features everything from a skate park to a lake and a thriving community garden.

Our Guide to Peckham

Be adventurous

Peckham’s newfound popularity has something to do with its gorgeous Victorian houses with their big gardens and high ceilings, some fantastic shopping options and excellent transport connections, making it an ideal base for families. But it also retains its status as a great place for the young – and not so young – to experiment and try something new. Click here for more details...

Our Guide to Herne Hill

The best green space in London?

Set around the 125-acre Brockwell Park, this leafy London village has traditionally flown under the property radar, despite its proximity to nearby hotspots such as Brixton, Camberwell and Dulwich. That’s all changing as savvy buyers and renters discover the charms of the neighbourhood – splashing around in Brockwell Lido, sampling the legendary fish and chips at Olley’s and browsing through the titles on offer at friendly Herne Hill Books. The area is recovering well from the disastrous burst water main flood of 2013, with a real sense of community spirit, while most shops and businesses have re-opened. An evergrowing selection of independent shops, restaurants, festivals and family-friendly activities makes this an area in high demand.

An independent, sporty area

Herne Hill was a mix of farms and woodland until the mid 18th century, and used to lie in the route of the River Effra. One suggested origin for the area’s name is ‘Heron Hill’- due to the high number of herons congregating at the river. Click here for more details...

Our Guide to Loughborough Junction

An undiscovered Gem – But not for long

Mention Loughborough Junction in conversation and it used to get you some odd looks from die-hard Londoners who’d never heard of the place. Known to some as East Brixton or an outpost on the fringes of Camberwell, residents of the area were more than happy to keep this diamond in the rough to themselves. Now this is all changing, with a comprehensive neighbourhood redevelopment plan and the corresponding influx of savvy property hunters. From the delights of the Green Flag award-winning Ruskin Park, pop-up cider bars and wellbeing events, quirky coffee shops to long established favourites, such as an old school boxing gym and a thriving arts scene, this is a part of the capital that’s putting itself firmly on the map.
Our Guide to Loughborough Junction

Regeneration, Community & Identity

Originally the home of Henry Hastings, the 1st Baron Loughborough, who lived in Loughborough House in the 1660s, the area’s railway station was opened in 1863, making it a transport hub. However, after the war it developed a rather shady reputation, mainly due to neglect and unfinished transport schemes. Click here for more details...

Our Guide to Camberwell & Denmark Hill

A box of delights?

Searching for the sounds of that old school ska record? Why not look through the shelves of vinyl at the legendary Rat Records, watch the BMX bikes pop a wheelie on the track in Burgess Park or feel the sun on your skin as the kids play in the paddling pool at Ruskin Park? Or maybe you’d prefer the taste of an ice-cold glass of wine and some delectable mezze, or an aromatic Sunday roast accompanied by some expertly played jazz, or a ‘Full Spanglish’ breakfast to quench your hangover? Camberwell isn’t easy to stick a label on, which is exactly why it has so much to offer – from wild nights out to family fun, gorgeous green spaces and some of the best food in London.
Our Guide to Camberwell & Denmark Hill

Our Guide to Brixton

A change of fortune?

Brixton is booming. The area is seeing gentrification on a grand scale – becoming one of the hottest areas to rent and buy in London. Why? Many would put it down to the influence of Brixton Village, with its host of trendy shops, stylish bars and fantastic restaurants. Five years ago, the owners of the Granville Arcade offered start-up businesses the chance of six months’ free rent. Fast forward to today, and it attracts people from all over town who are keen to sample some of the best new cooking in a buzzing location.
Our Guide to Brixton
But Brixton is so much more than just a foodie destination. Events like Brixton Splash celebrate Brixton’s rich history, as a large percentage of its population is made up of London’s Afro-Caribbean community, who run some of the best shops, cafes and venues in the capital. It’s a big draw for music fans too, with Brixton Academy playing host to a diverse selection of bands and solo artists. Head to Brixton if you’re looking for a lively night out – you won’t be disappointed! Click here for more details...
